The science behind learning at UBHS
Having a committed and highly skilled and talented staff team at Upper Batley High School provides learners with fantastic opportunities to flourish in their learning and their personal development. High-quality teaching delivered in lessons inspires learners to think critically about tasks they are undertaking and stretches and challenges their minds.
In school, we have done a lot of work around retrieval practices, recall and meta cognition and we use proven research methods such as the EEF (Education Endowment Foundation) to achieve positive outcomes with learners. Approaching the science behind thinking enables us to use this as a tool in the classroom to unlock learners’ potential to learn more and think more deeply. This approach is reflected in the brilliant work produced by our learners and their wonderful achievements.
Over the coming weeks we will be running ‘how to best revise’ sessions with Key Stage 4 (KS4) groups to support them with revision techniques and also help them to deepen their knowledge and understanding across all the subjects they study.
This will be followed by our ‘Mastery of Revision’ evening open to Year 11 learners and their parents/carers on Thursday 7 November from 4:00-6:00pm. The evening will give learners and their parents/carers the opportunity to pick up revision materials and get hints and tips on each subject, which will ultimately help them develop their knowledge further in preparation for their exams.
