Careers

Introduction

Careers are an integral part of our school and we have developed an exciting and informative programme that impacts across all year groups from 7 to 11. Careers is embedded across the school curriculum and each department has a Career champion that attends meetings and develops the initiatives within their department. We measure our success continually against the Gatsby Benchmarks using the Compass+ tool.

The school has a dedicated careers area where learners can access information they may require to choose the right career path. All the materials provided have been carefully researched and are appropriate to the age and ability of our young people. In Year 10 all learners are offered the opportunity to participate in one week work experience, they are encouraged to source their own placements.

As a careers team we are extremely proud of our achievements to date and are constantly looking to improve. We have built links with local industry, sixth form providers and universities enabling our learners’ access to the next steps whether that is apprenticeships/T Levels or further study at sixth form or college.

One of the measures we use to assess impact of the careers programme is the yearly destination figures, supplied by C+K. You can view the current information below.

Rob Crookes is our C+K Careers advisor and is in school every Thursday and Friday. If you would like to make an appointment with Rob please contact him on Robert.Crookes@ckcareers.org.uk

Events

If you are a young person living in Calderdale or Kirklees and need careers information, advice and guidance but are unable to get in touch with your C+K careers adviser in school, you can also talk to a C+K adviser via the C+K Chat service. Advisers can help with your next steps including:

• choosing subjects in Year 8 or Year 9
• exploring post-16 or post-18 options
• applications to sixth form or college
• applications for jobs and apprenticeships
• writing a CV
• information about different courses, careers and qualifications

You can contact a C+K careers adviser via the Chat service, Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. There are lots of ways to contact the Chat service:

• call: 01484 213856
• email: chat@ckcareers.org.uk
• or use our Facebook messenger service: www.facebook.com/CKCareers

You can also contact your school’s careers adviser, Robert Crookes, directly by email at Robert.crookes@ckcareers.org.uk if parents or carers would like to get in touch with him.

Information for Learners

What are T Levels?

Find out about T Levels from students, teachers, careers leaders, employers and a university representative. This 6-minute film explains what makes T Levels different from existing post-GCSE choices and who they will suit. T Levels are new 2 year qualifications that have been designed with employers to give young people a head start towards the careers they want.

UK Apprenticeships - in a nutshell

This information will be reviewed in September 2025.
