Believe - Achieve - Succeed

The power of reading

At Upper Batley High School, we believe that reading is the key to success - not just in education, but in life. Developing strong reading skills opens doors to new opportunities, enhances learning across all subjects, and builds confidence for the future. That’s why we are committed to making reading a central part of our school culture and ensuring every learner has the support they need to flourish as a reader.

We are incredibly proud of the work we do to create a reading-rich environment where learners are encouraged to develop a love for reading. In addition to the fantastic curriculum we offer, last week learners participated in brilliant sessions with author Dan Freedman and everyone got involved in World Book Day.

Strong reading skills don’t just improve academic success - they are essential for future careers, lifelong learning, and personal growth. Whether learners go on to college, apprenticeships, or employment, their ability to read fluently, understand complex information, and communicate effectively is vital to their success.

We are passionate about developing confident, curious, and capable readers who are ready to embrace the future with knowledge, creativity, and ambition here at UBHS. We would like to thank you for your ongoing support in encouraging reading at home - together, we can help our learners develop skills that will last a lifetime!
