A culture of wellbeing support

At UBHS we can confidently say we are one big family. We are a caring staff team, a family that looks after each other and supports each other through good times, and through the challenging times that everyone experiences from time-to-time. We are also extremely fortunate that we have the very best Pastoral Team as well as our dedicated school counsellor on site. These are members of staff whose focus it is to provide fundamental support and guidance for all of our young people.

Wellbeing is not simply an 'add-on' or 'tick-box' here, and is very much an integral part of our school culture. We work extremely hard to support everyone with their mental health and wellbeing; our Gold School Mental Health Award is testament to that, as well as the constructive work that takes place within our school.

We have recently trained a group of our learners, across various year groups, as Mental Health Mentors. Their role is to help and support young people with their mental health and give them a known person to talk to during a time of need, as they may feel more comfortable speaking to one of their peers. The Mentors have been trained by an external provider to enable them to provide support and guidance to others as well as understanding that looking after their own mental health and wellbeing is equally important.
