Letter to Parents - Returning to School

3 January 2022 (by Dominic Wroe (dwroe))

    Dear Parents/Carers

On behalf of everyone at Upper Batley High School I would like to welcome you back to the start of the new term. I hope you and your family have enjoyed the break, and we would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe New Year.

The Department for Education updated their guidance for schools on 2nd January, 2022. The key changes were most relevant to secondary schools and the government are now recommending that face coverings are worn in secondary school classrooms as well as in all communal areas. It is also essential we continue to regularly wash and sanitise our hands, especially before eating. There are several sanitising stations around our school site.

Face-to-face education remains a priority in all schools and it is essential we all do whatever we can to keep our school and our whole community safe. However, there is an acknowledgement from the government that staff absences could be higher over the next few weeks and remote learning may be required for some classes/groups. We will continue to do our very best to ensure we provide face-to-face education for all our young people, and we hope you understand we need to remain flexible in our approach, depending on infection levels over the coming weeks. We have a very detailed risk assessment in place as everyone’s safety is our number one priority, and we are set up and ready to switch to remote/blended learning should that be required for any groups.

To help keep everyone safe twice weekly lateral flow testing at home is recommended for all staff and learners, and the government ask that we all submit our results online. We are also offering on site testing for our learners on Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th January. See schedule below.
