Do what is right

Usually in these weekly blogs I focus on what is good and great about our community, about life and about the world in general. However this week it is with a heavy heart that I write this blog, when we see how George Floyd's murder has amplified issues of injustice and inequality in a truly painful moment for the whole world. In 2020 people should not be judged by the colour of their skin, but rather by the content of their character- by the person they are. We work hard here in Batley to celebrate our differences, and our diversity. To learn from each other, and embrace different cultures so that it is that variety which actually enriches our community, and enhances our society. Afterall, it is the unity in community that makes us. It should not matter what colour your skin is, what religion you are, what gender you are; every individual person should be treated with fairness, dignity and respect. Whether you support Manchester United, or Manchester City; whether your favorite food is pizza or fish and chips, we are all different and we are all unique. Treat everyone with the respect that you would wish to be treated with yourself. We all need to play our part in ensuring everyone is treated fairly, so this week I ask all of us to think about others and be the positive change we want to see in the world.
