Batley goes back to the 1940s
Friday saw UBHS taken back to the 1940s for a special VE day tribute. We had our very own Land Girls, and the themed work on Friday was all around the history of VE day and the opportunity to remember those who selflessly gave their lives at home and abroad, whose sacrifice enables us to enjoy the peace and freedoms we have today. We also reflected on those who came home wounded, mentally and physically, and the friends and family, and doctors and nurses who cared for them. Miss McLean brought in a wide collection of medals, ration books, photographs and memorabilia belonging to her two grandfathers. One of whom had served alongside Colonel Tom Moore. Our boys were viewing a photograph in school that was also shown on BBC television. Mr Weavill also brought in his father's RAF jacket and it was wonderful to hear the stories of bravery and commitment from relatives of our staff team. The learners also built a Spitfire model which will be on display in our Humanities department.
