Physical Education


At UBHS we work hard to raise the profile of physical education and to develop life-long learners who realise the importance of a healthy active lifestyle and acquire skills needed to participate in sports during their school life and beyond. 

Year 7 & 8 topics include:

Here we focus on teaching fundamental skills and moving them into increasingly complex situations. The sports below are covered in Year 7 and Year 8.

Year 10 & 11 topics include:

The Physical Education department study the Cambridge National Sports Studies course. In addition to the Core PE lesson learners studying BTEC Sport will participate in three additional lessons per week. Over the course learners will complete 4 units which contain theory and practical work. Learners wishing to choose this pathway must enjoy participating in PE and learning about issues in and around sport.

Extracurricular opportunities

Football, Spen Valley Cup, plus additional fixtures

Futsal club for all year groups

Team 16 futsal competitions for all year groups 

Other Information

We are currently involved in two FA initiatives Team 16 and Football Mash Up. Team 16 involves futsal Leagues running during lunchtime for every year group. FMU is an after school futsal club organised by learners. We also have a brand new fitness suite and boxercise / circuit training room.
