The school has a dedicated Careers Office where students can access information they may require regarding choosing the correct career path. All the information materials provided have been carefully researched and are appropriate to the age and ability of the students.
All students in Year 10 are offered the opportunity to participate in a one week Work Experience Programme. Students are encouraged to source their own placements. All placements must meet the necessary Health and Safety Requirements and progress is monitored by staff whilst on their placement. Willingness and ability to work is often high on the list of qualities that employers look for in young people, along with academic achievements. Work Experience is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain insight into the “real life” working world and gives them a chance to develop their self-confidence, practical and communication skills, which will assist them as they progress to further education or permanent employment.
We organise various other activities to help prepare the students for when they leave the school these include:
- Annual Careers Fair
- Mock Interviews
- College Visits
- Inspirational Talks
- Local College’s and Sixth Form provide talks to students in Assembly
After leaving Upper Batley High School, pupils have many options for further education including colleges, sixth form and apprenticeships. Pupils and parents are given advice and guidance in applying for their chosen Post-16 destination. Upper Batley High School uses the UCAS Progress system, allowing pupils to apply online to multiple destinations.
