Numeracy at UBHS
Here at UBHS we regard Maths as one of the most important subjects that your child studies at school as it develops their thinking and encourages them to solve problems independently. Children do benefit hugely when parents take a keen interest in their mathematical learning. As children progress each year at UBHS, they are shown different methods to solve mathematical problems.
As with all maths strategies, teachers demonstrate all of the standard written methods of problem solving. We encourage students to try a variety of methods and then decide on one that they feel confident using. This can be the difference between getting the answer right or wrong.
At UBHS we have numerous strategies of helping students succeed with their numeracy skills. During Maths lessons students follow a challenging and problem-solving enriched programme which is complemented by a numeracy skills focussed curriculum across the college. Every week students use their dedicated Aspire form time programme to practice essential Numeracy skills to help them improve with their learning for all their curriculum subjects.
How can Numeracy be improved?
Students can practice their Numeracy skills by using the MyMaths website: http://www.mymaths.co.uk/
Please support your child at home to practice these skills routinely during the week. Thank you for your continued support.
