An unusual end to the year

These have certainly been very unusual times in Batley, and around the world, since the Covid-19 pandemic struck, and school closures were forced back in March. Since then our entire learning community has learned to adapt, be flexible, be resilient, be innovative and forward thinking, and work in a whole new way each and every day. Parents/carers have been home schooling, many whilst also trying to work from home themselves. Our staff team have been teaching classes via online lessons, Google classroom and other online sources, whilst also trying to home school their own children and look after elderly relatives. We have delivered hampers every week to our families who need them, and carried out garden visits, book drop offs, wellbeing calls, work catch up calls, delivered paperwork packs, opened a community library (the Upper Batley Book Shelf) and generally tried to keep our school going, and most importantly keep everyone learning and safe, in every way we could. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for being so resilient and so supportive of our school, and most importantly supportive of your son's education, through these difficult times. Many of you have lost loved ones, or nursed loved ones through this dreaded virus. Never has any small act of kindness been as important than now, and helping other people, and looking after other people is so crucial. Community makes us and it is the unity in community that matters the most. Please stay safe over the summer period, look after yourselves and continue to follow all government guidance. We will see you in September for an exciting new year and new term at UBHS.
